What Are You Holding On To That’s Dragging You Down? | The Perceptual Shift Show EP 50

Change is inevitable. But sometimes it isn’t the change itself that causes us the most pain—it’s our resistance to what’s already happening.

In this episode of The Perceptual Shift Show, James and Robbie explore what happens when we cling to situations, people, frustrations, and outcomes we can’t control—and how learning to let go can help us move forward with less struggle and suffering.

James offers a metaphor that becomes the theme of the episode: resisting reality can be like grabbing onto the bumper of a moving car. The car isn’t going to stop. The longer you hold on, the more you get dragged.

Acceptance doesn’t mean we have to like what happened. It means recognizing what is, becoming aware when we’re fighting it, and choosing what we want to do next.

And sometimes change can do more than challenge us. When we stop fighting what is, it can open us to possibilities, solutions, and opportunities we may never have seen otherwise.

Because perceptual shifting isn’t about never getting upset, uncomfortable, or pulled into something. It’s about recognizing it sooner—and remembering that we have a choice about what we do next.

“Perfection is highly overrated.” — James
